Our History

A very merry Christmas!

In the weeks preceding Christmas both choirs have been busy with some really enjoyable singing in three events. Firstly, Beckenham Junior Choir gave a lovely performance of some Christmas-themed pieces for its concert on the 26th November, at Beckenham Baptist Church in Elm Road, welcomed by the Revd. Neil Draisey, the audience were treated to a very accomplished and spirited programme by the choir and by the young pianist-accompanists, growing into their roles as musicians playing for us with great skill and confidence.

Secondly, Beckenham's celebratory music event to switch on the Christmas lights on Beckenham Green, on the 29th November, watched by members of the public on a specially constructed stage, and led by James Carpenter the choirs and some enthusiastic parents  gave a rousing rendition of popular carols to great applause.

Then thirdly, Youth Voices sang, as part of three choirs together, in a concert in aid of Sydenham Garden at St. John the evangelist in East Dulwich. The program included Bejamin Britten's Festival of Carols and under the conductorship of John Webber this complicated and challenging suite of carols, filled the large acoustic offered by St. John's magnificently. Accompanied by a young Harpist, the range of tones and textures was really something to remember.

To round off the Christmas clelebrations you can hear the members of both choirs videoed by our fantastic sound man Ant Westgarth, at King's College Hospital chapel, where they sang carols for Christmas for an audience of hospital staff, patients and visitors.

We wish you all a peaceful and joyous Christmas and look forward to singing together again in 2015.
