Spring concerts 2012

Junior Choir and Youth Voices Raise the Roof at Anerley Town Hall!

The Anerley Town Hall concert on Friday night, 23rd March, was very special.  We haven’t visited there as a Choir for many years and the stage gave us an extra dimension.

anerley-singingWell done to the various soloists.....and announcers.....and to the Choirs as a whole, plus pianists and other musicians, not to overlook the parents and friends behind the scenes.

The two Choirs are producing a lovely tone.  Both groups have some very special individual voices and we have been fortunate to have new members recently with talent.....and we shall use them again!

It was wonderful to have the two instrumental groups from Trinity School.  They are very talented and added greatly to the occasion.

Congraulations to you all!

Following the concert we have had some lovely compliments from the audience:

"My ears are still ringing and G. is still buzzing about the experience of singing on the stage. Also watching the other musicians especially the youth voices which we thought were brilliant.

I certainly didn't realise how much effort goes into conducting the choir, keeping  them in tune and singing the right words. The London Songs were my personal favourite." A. Glynn

"Just wanted to pass on my thanks and congratulations re the concert at Anerley last Friday.

As relative newcomers to the choir, it was amazing to see how much progress has been made in such a short space of time and the children are growing with every piece.

My sister and brother in law (both members of Eisteddfod winning choirs in their time!) were visiting from South Wales and were most impressed and thoroughly entertained. They particularly liked the London pieces and agreed that you got great value for a pound!  Such a great way of boosting confidence and self esteem. So too, with the opportunity for budding pianists to accompany the choir. Fantastic." H. Davies

Junior Choir at St George's Saturday Morning Coffee Concert

Beckenham Junior Choir performed on 3rd March at St George's Church, Beckenham, as part of its series of short Saturday morning Coffee Concerts.  It was a lovely occasion with a variety of songs, poems and also some excellent solos and was well supported by the local community.

It was wonderful to be invited to perform in the beautiful surroundings of St George's with the spring flowers in bloom in the churchyard - something we do not often get to see as most of our concerts are in the evening!

Our Autumn Concert in West Wickham

In Concert at Emmanuel Church 26th November

On Saturday 26th November, Beckenham Junior Choir and Youth Voices gave an immensely enjoyable concert, together with some 36 singers from Oak Lodge Primary School. A fantastic audience of about 250 family and friends were treated to a very rich and varied programme.

Following the concert, the Head of Music at Oak Lodge Primary School, Helen Griffiths, kindly thanked us calling the event "A superb evening of choral music.  I, the children and parents thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!  Congratulations from all at Oak Lodge to your accomplished choirs, soloists and accompanists.”

What a wonderful evening it was!”

Youth Voices in concert October 12th

An informal Concert by Youth Voices

On Wednesday 12th October, Youth Voices gave an informal concert in Elm Road Baptist church for an audience of families and friends.

DSC_0001Web

A lively start to the evening's proceedings was made with "I got Rhythm" and then the Newfoundland folksong "She's like the Swallow" featuring Grace accompanying Youth Voices on flute. Long-standing choir members Robyn and Tamsyn then treated us to wonderful solo pieces, "When daisies pied" and Tamsin's completely unaccompanied "Long-a-growing".

This concert was a chance to air new pieces that were started at the beginning of this term and "Jesu Joy of man's desiring and "To music" show how just how wide a range of music is enjoyed by our choirs.

Sophie filled the church with her solo rendition of "I don't know how to love him" and Bonnie captivated all who were there with the aria "Giunze alfin il momento deh vieni" from W A Mozart Le nozze di Figaro.

It was then time for a little girls vs. boys with "The man I love" followed by the boys singing "Red is the Rose" to an arrangement of the tune Loch Lomond by our guitarist-accompanist Mark Edwards.

The programme concluded with another visit to "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square", and some welcome refreshments - thanks to Rosemary and helpers - and a chance to chat. We hope to repeat this opportunity for Youth Voices to perform in an informal concert like this in the Spring and all are welcome to attend.

Youth Voices was started in 2004 as an extension the the Junior Choir for those in school years 7 and above, and new members are always welcome.

The choir sang a wide selection of songs, which included a medley of 1940's classics, calypsos and the peaceful Panis Angelicus.  "Haunted House" a spoken verse, was also performed, and was very well received.  Well done everybody, including all the solo performers and our violin accompanist.

Well Done To Everyone For A Wonderful Christmas Concert!

Congratulations to all on the singing (and playing) on 8 December!

We had a really good concert at Penge Congregational Church, christmas_08_12_10_266with a great variety of styles and some fabulous solos, a terrific duet and some fine group singing.  It was lovely to have some people in their first ever concert, but also some more expert musicians, who have taken part in many performances with us. It was our first venture into four part music and well worth the effort.  Great to have the instruments, too.  Thanks to the parents and siblings who joined in.

If you still need your copies of the new CD, please let me know at the next rehearsal (£5 each).Christmas_08_12_10_258
